These were a couple inspirational photos I found on the website Flavim. They are photos which focus on lighting and weather, it grabs your attention instantly. These are great for my David Wilson shoots, even though David Wilson doesn't look at lighting he looks at decay and rust and deserted/lonely objects so using this as my theme but expanding onto weather using ISO or Shutter Speed would make my image more eye catching.

This was a winters afternoon but when it was sunny, I thought the setting/sky was beautiful as it was frosty/icy but sunny so the sun was capturing the sparkle from the first photos.

The third image is a very natural image, a ISO of 200 but I loved the way the sun was creeping through the trees to make it look in a way magical, sort of like Twilight. I positioned the camera using rule of thirds so the lighting was coming through on the right side of the image to make it look more intriguing.

My final image I find isn't one of the best images as the composition isn't very interesting it is a basic landscape photo but the colours of the photo I thought I captured really well such as the blues/very light pinks and greens. I didn't have a tripod so I rested the image on a gate and used shutter speed.

These photos were looking at lighting and weather such as the Flavim photos I put on here . The weather and contrast looks great experimenting with shutter speed. These photos are slightly under exposed as I would like the houses, road etc lighter so I will develop this and try different shutters/ISO's and use photoshop to create a vibrant image.

Jenn Ackerman

Studying mental illnesses I came across this modern day photographer which looks at the mental illness/prision side of America. Ackerman likes to focus on the subcultures in the United States that are often misunderstood and overlooked including mental illness in prison. She likes to work in intimate close settings and show the viewer stories of people which have rarely been told.

Her images are a documentation of how you can be trapped and lost, this is conveyed by black and white as it takes the life and soal out of the photo.

Her images can either be natural or staged shown here.

This is one of Ackerman images. This I think has been staged and it shows the audience of being trapped. I think it's a really effective photo such as the use of black and white and a black vignette around the corners, like the vignette is enclosing on the picture making it seem even more trapped. The person used is not out of focus but we can't see him sharply which makes it seem more realistic but yet questioning who is the person as we only see their name and number, that is how they are in prision just a number with no identity reflecting feeling lonely and lost.

This image seems more natural and not staged, she would have used shutter speed on the guard to catch his move, this could have been done to show how many times he has to walk this prision that its a hourly occurance and it's never ending, these peoples lives are in here and there is no escape. She has taken the photo behind the bars for a specific reason to show being trapped.

David Wilson 2

This was a simple shoot where I just thought the layout and the lighting was really effective, the composition looks very lonely as the mood of the picture shows that this setting has been used but it's been left.

Elizabeth Carmel

Unique and expressive landscape photography is what Elizabeth Carmel focusses on by using and experimenting with vivid colors and artistic compositions to create new, captivating visions of the natural world. Carmel wants her photos to show positiveness experiences of the world into fine art and believes that experiencing the Earth's beauty has the power to help nourish and unify us, so she believes that a photo should have a story behind it.
Her photos aren't specifically like mine but it's the context of Elizabeth Carmel which I like as her beliefs are like mine, I feel like a photo could look very striking such as a flower or a model walking the streets of london with the most fashionable clothes on but I personally like photos which tell or give us something, something personal which we can relate too. Hidden meanings.

This is a image of Carmels on her website and I chose it as I think it' stunning. This photo was taken during sunrise and you can see this by the light blue sky and light pinks on the mountain. She has captured the moving water in the river this would have been done by a 3/4 second shutter speed. Taking this and looking at how I could inspire from I think reflections such as water would be interesting and deserted places like this setting, it looks so peaceful by the colours, calm water, the mountains.

I found this picture when looking at the thought of Loneliness and it really captured my eye. It looks at loneliness in a really different way as the emotion of space is huge, it looks secluded and mysterious. The photo looks edited with the black and white as it seems to have a blue-ish tint, but this photo would have been taken on a bleak grey day probably around the afternoon. I am going on a lovely walk with my family where I can look at lakes and shadows, more or less looking at the composition and ISO.

Glenside Hospital Museam

Throughout this course we are studying a essay and what to do it on, with my theme of Loneliness I have steered a bit against it but still with the concept of loneliness but looking at Mental Illnesses. Glenside Hospital Museum was a great place to look at in Bristol for inspiration. It wasn't just knowing the history of it and the illnesses, it was focussing on how Mental Illness was portrayed through photographs.

I noticed it was more telling a story of what their lifes were like, it wasn't staged, it was very natural and very basic. Techniques weren't thought of that much, they couldn't have been edited/photoshopped, shutter speed, ISO, they had to work with what they did have such as looking at lighting.

This was a photoshop edit I thought I would add onto my blog, I took three different photos of my model moving using the shutter speed and layering them onto eachother decreasing the opacity. I thought it looked quite unique and scary.

David Wilson

David Wilson is a black and white landscape photographer looking at Cottages, Fields, Rust. His favourite seasons for photography are late autumn, winter and early spring when the sun's arc is low in the sky, each composition enhanced by highlight and shadow so when taking my shoot I am thinking about this such as angles and lighting. I like this idea by playing around with Loneliness looking at empty spaces and things like rust, showing decay - passing of time. It's forgotten about. Also black and white against landscapes with the sunlight can make a photo really stand out and look sharp. My ISO will be around 200 as I want these photos to look sharp and catch the sunlight and if I find some great close up shots of rust etc I will use depth of field to make sure this can stand out against the backgrounds.

My shoot will be based in Autumn/Winter and the timing of the day will be around 4/5 o'clock as the sun can be going down and the place where I am shooting I can take some photos with some great angles highlighting shadows and emphasising them.

Wales book photography: Rusty Moggies

This photo is great and I really like it. There is a hidden message in this photo which could be seen as not only is this photo showing rust as it's old but the cars its self are old which I think is really clever because it's showing how they are as seen as 'rubbish' and 'not wanted' anymore which follows my theme really well. This photo has been thought about such as timing of the day, exposure. I would say this was taken around 3 oclock so the sun can cause shadows such as in the middle of the cars and an ISO of around 200. I love the composition of the contrasting colours of black vs white.

This shoot I went out around 4/5 o'clock down to my grans farm/field. I hadn't visited her field in ages and it was really nice going down and experimenting with lighting and shadows. I got some great shots I couldn't choose which one I liked so I put numerous ones in. Majority of them have had the contrast changed a bit to emphasis the shadows and sharpened. I really like how this shoot went, I was very happy. They portray loneliness in a very unusual way as the photo concept (context) is quite strange such as the bath being in the middle of the barn and a gate with loads of empty space where nobody is around.

I would like to further develop this shoot with maybe photoshopping people onto it or actually taking a shoot with somebody down there and using the Uta Barth/Francis Bacon shoot re-developed of faces moving but with great lighting and it showing ambuigity of not knowing who it is or what it is.

This shoot wasn't in style of anything in paticular, it was a family friends wedding and I thought I would go along to take photos for inspiration, showing techniques and all experimentation. I put my ISO on 200 as it was a bright sunny day. I wanted to take my photos in black and white as I think wedding photography in black and white is lovely especially using natural day light against the white dress. This shoot could fit into my work as I am looking at loneliness but this is in contrast to being lonely this is showing love, family, friends and affection.

Francis Bacon

My photoshop edit

These images were all in style of Francis Bacon of taking a human face and making it look disorted and different. He was able to do this by paintings where as I am doing with this photography so I came up with the idea of squashing a face against a window making it look unique and disorted. I took the photos in black and white as I think the shadows against the natural lighting looked really nice. I quite fancied trying a photoshop edit of layering my two images and changing the opacity to make it look quite confusing
